Green Bottles for a green world: Biobased Plastics
Plastisax trust Braskem
Green Polyethylene (Green PE)
Braskem is the world leader in the field of biopolymers because of Green PE, first produced on a commercial scale in September 2010. The market values this product highly because it is obtained from a renewable source (instead of fossil fuels) – sugarcane ethanol – while retaining the performance characteristics of a traditional PE, which means it can be used immediately in a variety of applications. Awarded and recognized worldwide, Braskem´s Green PE highly has a very positive environmental balance because, considering the complete supply chain, it removes up to 2.15 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere for each ton produced. The product wes announced to the market in 2007, has received certification from the international Beta Analytic laboraty, and was certified by the Vinçotte Institute of Belgium.
WHAT ARE BIOPLASTICS?
Don’t be scared of the science; bioplastics are actually very simple. There are two main categories:
Bioplastics that are produced from renewable materials like plants and trees: these are known as “bio-based” bioplastics
Bioplastics that are designed to biodegrade or compost at the end of their useful life: these are known as “biodegradable” bioplastics
Some bioplastics are both bio-based and biodegradable. And the best thing about them is that they can often replace environmentally unfriendly traditional plastic products – what we call petro-plastics.
WHY ARE BIOPLASTICS GREAT?
They can reduce the use of fossil fuels which are used to make traditional petro-plastics.
They can biodegrade or compost at the end of their useful life and so reduce pollution to the environment.
They can lock up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere whereas petro-plastics release this from underground sources: this helps fight climate change.

Polyethylene Recycled (R-PE) & R-PET
HDPE plastic is the stiff plastic used to make milk jugs, detergent and oil bottles, toys, cosmetic and some plastic bags. HDPE is the most commonly recycled plastic and is considered one of the safest forms of plastic. … Products made of HDPE are reusable and recyclable.
In PLASTISAX we manufacture bottles with 50% R-HDPE and R-PET. The plastic is certified for cosmetic use, with the CE REACH CERTIFICATE and soon with the food certificate.
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a highly recyclable plastic resin and a form of polyester. It is a polymer created by the combination of two monomers: modified ethylene glycol and purified terephthalic acid. It was first synthesized in North America by Dupont chemists during the 1940s.
Labeled with the #1 code on or near the bottom of bottles and containers, PET is frequently used to package a range of products including beverages, peanut butter, bakery goods, produce, frozen foods, salad dressings, cosmetics, and household cleaners.
Prized for its strength, thermo-stability, and transparency, PET is a popular choice for packaging. PET also is inexpensive, lightweight, resealable, shatter-resistant, and recyclable.
Recycled polyethylene terephthalate is known as RPET, and it is the most widely recycled plastic in the world.
